This study explored the ways in which employed parents successfully balance work and family responsibilities. Semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 parents who perceived themselves as successful in balancing work and family life. Most participants were working mothers in dual-earner families with children. These successful parents structured their lives around 8 major strategies utilized at work and home: valuing family, striving for equality and partnership in the marital relationship, making decisions proactively, taking pride in dual earning, maintaining work boundaries, valuing time, garnering support of work institutions, and garnering support of extended families. Adaptive strategies and practical considerations were discussed, and implications for future research were identified. Key words : dual-earner families, working mothers, work-family balance"
